Comparing the Features of Anime and Fantasy Swords:

Image
Swords have played a significant role in history for as long as there have been swords. In fact, swords are like the quintessential status symbol with a rich and noble past. They represent power and royalty and are even sometimes seen as badges of honor (and when you say “sword”, most people would think of the katana or samurai one).  Useful Weapons of All Times It can be utilized for anything from cutting down trees to slashing an enemy’s throat, but they looked beautiful attached to their sheaths just sitting around. They usually come in two types: longswords and shortswords. Longswords have been around for centuries longer than shortswords, but both are associated with great men and women in history.  The Romans had the gladius, a short saber that was thrust into opponents’ bodies or tied around their necks, while the Chinese had their own long one that was so heavy they would throw it at the enemy. From England to Africa, to India and down even to the Americas these ...

An Introduction to Swords: How to Forge These Weapons?

Image
The development of swords is a long and complicated history. The earliest evidence of these appears in ancient Egyptian society as early as 3200 BC. They are usually depicted as ceremonial symbols, like an icon of the deity or a symbol for royal authority and power.  These weapons were used to fight enemies, but also for hunting or fishing expeditions, before metalworking became common in Mesopotamia around 1300 BC.  They remained largely unchanged for many centuries after their creation, but advances both in warfare and metalworking eventually led to sword designs that were lighter than previous models, easier to wield and more efficient at killing opponents.  Introduction of the Swords The introduction of these weapons to the medieval world came in the later Middle Ages, where they had been developed and refined by Arab swordsmiths and Greek Byzantines. The strong emphasis on European warfare from the late 13th century created demand for superior categories, wh...

Training Swords for Martial Arts and Their Importance!

Image
A training sword is a wooden or metal blade with a straight handle, used as a training mock-up for historical martial arts weapons such as swords and sabres. These swords are typically made with cheaper material and have a large blade width. They are similar to one-time use swords that you would buy at the store.  This makes them perfect for practice in particular because they won't break if accidentally struck against another sword or object. It's important that your training sword has a blade width of 2⅔". This will allow it to be used with your three-weapon class forms and still make contact with the other two weapons. Origins of Training Sabers The origins of these swords date back to Ancient Rome, when the legionaries were practicing their skills in a place called Campus Martius. They used short javelins with sharpened edges, which were the closest thing to today’s modern pilum or spear. This gave rise to a tradition of training with long spears.  These long ...

Katana: These Real Swords Are Highly Valuable in Sword History

Image
The word katana is a Japanese word meaning “sword”. It is often translated as "samurai sword" in English, but this translation isn't completely accurate. The term samurais applies to individuals who served the Samurai caste in feudal Japan and not to any particular item that they used. The correct translation for  katana would be a "modern sword". So what exactly is a modern sword ? Broadly speaking, it's an edged weapon that was developed in the 17th century by Blacksmiths from Japan who were seeking to perfect their craft and create weapons for the samurai warrior class. To understand what a modern sword is, it might be a good idea to first examine the history of the weapon and how it was created. Invention of Katanas- Interesting Facts The process that led to the creation of these real swords began in the early 1600's during Japan's "Warring States" period. In an effort to bring peace and order back to their country, Japanese warlo...
